Chiawa GMA

ElephantsRoyal Zambezi Wildlife operates the Chiawa Game Management Area (GMA), situated in the lower Zambezi Valley floodplains 190 km from Lusaka, a 4 hour drive or a 30 minute flight from Lusaka International Airport.

The area, approximately 300,000 acres in extent, includes 40 km of Zambezi River frontage in the South. The river forms the International Boundary between Zambia and Zimbabwe's world famous Mana Pools National Park. The concession shares a common boundary in the east with Zambia's Lower Zambezi National Park. The huge Zambezi Escarpment forms a natural barrier to the north.

Buffalo

The area offers a wide range of habitat including mountainous, forested type vegetatio in the escarpment foothills, stretching down through mixed woodland to the Zambezi River Floodplain.

Royal Zambezi Wildlife participates in conjunction with the local community and their Chieftainess. Hunting is conducted by both vehicle and by boat depending on the species required.

Situated above a natural spring in the foothills of the escarpment overlooking the distant Zambezi Floodplain, the camp consists of spacious, tastefully decorated “Meru” type tents with bathroom en suite. The tents re raised high above the ground on wooden platforms, and are set in amongst the branches of the forest canopy. The dining/lounge area is centrally placed, and is open plan with a thatched roof. Power is supplied by a 3-phase solar system with back up generator.
